At Touch Health & Fitness, our Registered Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner uses very fine, single-use, sterile needles into the body at acupoints on the skin. Acupoints are located along pathways which traverse the body from head to toe. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the body’s energy, called ‘qi’ (pronounced “chee”) flows through these pathways. In a balanced state, qi flows freely and the body is able to carry out all the physiological functions it needs to keep us healthy and ward off disease. When conduits for qi become blocked, it puts stress and pressure on nerves, lymph nodes, blood vessels and other structures we rely on to transport substances, remove waste, and send signals in our body. By needling certain acupoints, we aim to unblock the pathways so that the body is able to function optimally.
